Baile „Neptun”

An abandoned spa in Romania. We visited it during our trip in May 2018 and second time in July 2021. In 2021 fountain in center building was secured for renovation.

Also known as the Neptun Baths, it was built in 1886 in eclectic style according to the plan of the architect Ignác Alpár and housed the bathing establishment of the resort of Baile Herculane. Among the personalities who were treated at these baths were Emperor Franz Joseph, Empress Elisabeth, Nicolae Iorga, Liviu Rebreanu, Ion Minulescu, Ionel Teodoreanu and Mihail Sadoveanu.
After the revolution the resort of Băile Herculane went into decline and this building, like other historical monuments, was left to decay.
