Gazownia Wola
An abandoned gasworks in Poland. I visited it during our trip in 2012.
In 1856, the Gas Committee signed a concession agreement with the German Continental Gas Association in Dassau for the construction of a gas plant. The result of the contract was the gasworks at ul. Ludna in Powiśle. In the years 1886-1888, a much larger gas plant was built at ul. Dworska (today Kasprzaka). A chemical factory was located next to it from 1892. In 1925 the gasworks became the property of the commune of the Capital City of Warsaw and since then it was called “City Gasworks”.
Destroyed during the September 1939 campaign, then immobilized. It was rebuilt after the war and launched on June 25, 1945. In 1978, coal gas production was finished.
