Szyb Krystyna

An abandoned mine in Poland. I visited it during trip in March 2021.

The Krystyna Shaft was built between 1928 and 1930 as part of the former Ficinus Coal Mine, later incorporated into the Szombierki Coal Mine in Bytom. Designed in a modernist style, the shaft tower became one of the most distinctive industrial structures in Upper Silesia. It served as a key ventilation and extraction facility for decades during the region’s intensive coal mining era. After mining operations ceased, the building was preserved as an important monument of industrial heritage and remains a symbol of Silesia’s mining history.
