UFO Village

An abandoned hotel in Taiwan. I visited it during trip in September 2019.

On Taiwan’s northern coast once stood one of the island’s most unique and futuristic landmarks — UFO Village in Sanzhi. Known for its round, pod-shaped houses resembling flying saucers, this abandoned village Taiwan was an ambitious holiday resort project from the late 1970s. Designed as a modern, luxury seaside escape for Taipei’s elite, construction began in 1978 but was halted just two years later.

Over time, the empty, decaying structures gained cult status among urban explorers and photographers drawn to their retro-futuristic charm. Although the site was demolished in 2010, UFO Village remains one of the most famous examples of an abandoned village Taiwan ever had, living on through photographs and stories of its otherworldly design.

If you’re fascinated by lost places and modern ruins, this once-iconic site is a must-know in the world of abandoned architecture.
